Mary Ellen Merwin

Mary Ellen Merwin, 61, of Dover, Delaware, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, with her family and loved ones by her side.

Born on March 5, 1965, in Salem, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Judith Maryellen Hutchinson and Grant C. Merwin. She was a graduate of Penns Grove High School, Class of 1983. Mary was known for her sense of humor, her love of gathering with family, and her ability to make any occasion special.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and loved vacationing, attending concerts, cruising, following baseball, football and NASCAR, crafting, Bingo, going to casinos, and her newfound porch geese obsession.

In keeping with her giving spirit, Mary was an organ donor, helping others even in her passing.

In addition to her mother, Mary was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Samuel D. “Pete” Riley and Elizabeth “Betty” Riley (Shaw); her paternal grandparents, Kenneth S. Merwin and Esther Merwin (Hillman); and numerous aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her father, Grant C. Merwin; her sisters, Lisa Kahl (Richard) and Sandra McKee (Larry); her nephew, Dalton Kahl; and her beloved dog, Lil’ Man. She is also survived by her aunt, Charlotte Smits; Theresa Foster (Sean); her cousins, Kevin Dougherty (Cathy), Mark Dougherty (Lisa), Brian Dougherty (Margaret), Christine Daley, Geri Lynn Ewald (Bill), Joe Kyle, Nicole Price (Chris), Allison Turner (Cory), Sean Foster (Ruth), and Apryl Foster; her best friend, Karen West; and many other dear friends, including Carolyn Danks and Malissa Cronican.

Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
