Pittsgrove Township

Ye Olde Centerton Inn located in Pittsgrove Township in the community of Centerton.

Pittsgrove Township is in the far eastern end of Salem County bordered by both Gloucester and Cumberland Counties as well as Elmer and Upper Pittsgrove to its northwest.

Other unincorporated communities, localities and place names located within the township include Alliance, Brotmanville, Centerton, Daretown, Greenville, Norma, Palatine, Six Points, Union Grove, Upper Neck and Willow Grove.

Evolving from dense historical woodlands and early mill towns, Pittsgrove Township has grown into a premier recreational and agricultural hub. Spanning almost 46 square milesโ€”with nearly 2% of its area made up of scenic lakes and streamsโ€”the township provides a peaceful, heavily wooded retreat for its roughly 8,770 residents. It is highly regarded for its family-friendly atmosphere, excellent schools, and stunning state parks.

Pittsgrove’s early economy was driven by vital lumber and grist mills, but its modern landscape was heavily shaped by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) which was a cornerstone of President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930s. Their painstaking work transformed local woodlands into lasting public spaces that generations have since enjoyed.

Parvin State Park serves as the crown jewel of Pittsgrove, offering residents miles of pristine trails, campsites, and lake activities (Thundergust Lake) hidden beneath towering pines. This deep connection to nature perfectly complements the township’s quiet neighborhoods and vibrant local agriculture. The park is one of the busiest State Parks in all of New Jersey and only one of two in Salem County.
