James A. Battle

August 16, 1943 - February 18, 2026

James A. Battle, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 with his family by his side. Jim was born on August 16, 1943 to Charles M. Battle and Gladys R. Battle. Jim grew up on his family farm which taught him hard work & dedication. He entered the US Navy at 17 years old and served our Country for six years. He was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS English DD 696. Jim married Carole R. Price on June 29, 1963. After the service they started their family in Woodstown. They had two children, Jan M. Hill and James A. Battle Jr. Jim retired as a Foreman from DuPont Chambers Works in 1998. After retiring, Jim & Carole enjoyed traveling with friends adventuring across the Country, including a two month trip to Alaska, yearly trips to Florida and had fond memories at their seasonal campsite in central Pennsylvania. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, skiing & camping with his family & friends. Jim was a member of the Cross Keys Gun Club in Batsto, NJ since he was 12 years old and served as Secretary & Head Woodsman. He enjoyed teaching the art of hunting and spending time with his family, turning deer season into a special family event whether tracking a deer or searching for lost arrows. He often traveled to Maine for bear hunting excursions with family & friends creating lifelong memories. Every trip/hunt turned into a cherished story he loved to share with anyone interested. He loved fishing, from chasing halibut up in Alaska to casting lines at Woodstown Lake where he patiently taught his Grandchildren the joys of fishing. He faithfully supported his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren’s sporting events, proudly cheering them on from the sidelines. His greatest joy was simply being with his family sharing the traditions & moments that become lasting memories. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Gladys; his sister, Isabel F. McAllister; his brother-in-law, Lester McAllister; his sister-in-law, Sandra K. Battle; his sister-in-law, Marie Carpenter (Price); his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Jim & Laurie (Price) Frank; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Licardello (Price). Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole; his children, Jan Hill (Dennis) & James Battle Jr. (Becky); his five grandchildren, Dennis Hill Jr (Julia), Kate Ogilvie (Ryan), Dillon Hill (Vanessa), Zach Battle, Avery Battle & Ledger Battle; his five great-grandchildren, Maeleigh & Braelyn Hill, Lily & Molly Ogilvie & Mia Hill; his brother, Charles Battle Jr.; his brother & sister-in-law, Jeffrey & Nancy Battle; his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Bill & Joan Price and Donna (Price) & Arthur Walker; his brother-in-law, Sam Carpenter; and numerous nieces & nephews.
