Emma Jean “Jeanie” Mantooth, lovingly known as the “Queen of Hearts,” passed away on April 5, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on August 16, 1955, in Elmer, New Jersey, but raised in Glassboro, New Jersey, she was the cherished daughter of the late Virgil T. Mantooth and Wilma Ina (Justus) Mantooth. Jeanie was married to James Ellis Jones and later to Russell Miller Jr., and throughout her life Jeanie remained deeply devoted to her family and loved ones.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially crabbing and saltwater fishing. Some of her happiest moments were spent on the Bonanza II out of Fortescue with Captain Mike. Her greatest passion was country line dancing. Jeanie’s love for dance took her as far as Louisiana, where she danced at the White Horse Saloon. Closer to home, she was a familiar and vibrant presence on the dance floor, with her final dance taking place at Bullhide Brewery in Pilesgrove, New Jersey.
Jeanie was a hardworking and dedicated woman throughout her life. She was employed at Wheaton Industries in Mays Landing, JCPenney #2287 in Mays Landing, Dollar General in Woodstown, and UPS in Logan Township. In addition to her work, she served her community as an EMT with Laurel Lake Ambulance, always ready to help those in need.
Her compassion extended even further through her service as a Red Cross volunteer. On her grandson Quinn’s fourth birthday, she answered the call to assist during one of the nation’s darkest times. She traveled to the bus depot and went on to serve at Ground Zero alongside her son, Michael. After initially working at Ground Zero, Jeanie continued her efforts on the New Jersey side, offering comfort, support, and a shoulder to lean on for families affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
Jeanie is survived by her daughter Jennifer McDonald (Robert); her grandchildren Frank “Quinn” Wes Stubbins V, Djuan Sloan of Pilesgrove, Kayleigh Stubbins of Penns Grove, Tyler McDonald of Elsinboro NJ, Ina Jean Miller, Hayley Mae Miller, Paisley Anne Miller and Michael Ray Miller, Jr.; her siblings Ray Mantooth of Sevierville, TN, Shirley Barton of Pitman, NJ; many nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Shera and dog Cookie.
Along with her parents, Jeanie was predeceased by her son Michael R Miller; her brothers Cylde, Carl, Clemen, Jessie and Raymond Mantooth; and her sisters Janice Borowyj and Geraldine Crawford.
