Services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Adams Funeral Home, 64 Broad Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098. There will be a visitation starting at 9:30 AM leading to the funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Emily’s memory to Miriam’s Table, PO Box 402, Lewes, DE 19958 or by going to www.miriamstable.org.
Emily D. Hewitt, 79, currently residing in Earleville, MD, passed away on April 1, 2026. Born in Wilmington, DE to the late David and Jessie (Browning) Davis, Emily grew up in the Penns Grove / Carneys Point, NJ area and was a 1964 graduate of Penns Grove High School. Later in life, she continued her education by earning a certificate in Administration from the Salem County Vocational Technical School.
Emily began her career working for First Home Savings and Loan, starting out as a Teller and making her way up the ladder to becoming Branch Manager. She also spent time working in the Loan Department after they became Sovereign Bank. When she left the bank, Emily’s career shifted and she became the Fugitive Secretary for the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office, from which she retired in September of 2022. After Emily’s and her husband Wesley’s retirement, they turned their summer and weekend getaway home in Earleville, MD into their primary residence.
Emily was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Carneys Point, NJ until 2000, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Earleville, MD and Haven Community Church in North East, MD for the last 14 years. She loved doing arts and crafts and making fleece blankets.
Emily is survived by her loving husband of sixty and a half years, Wesley A. Hewitt, Jr.; her son Wesley “Wes” D. Hewitt and Wes’ wife, Devon R. Kelly; her daughter Jessica A. Hewitt; her grandchildren Chelsea L. Velazquez and her husband Moises Velazquez, Wesley D. Hewitt, Jr., Max D. Hewitt, Emily Powers and her husband Jacob Powers, and James P. Hewitt; her great grandchildren Mateo A. Velazquez, Scotti L. Powers and Oliver Velazquez (who is on his way); her many nieces and nephews; as well as several other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Lynn Loper and Dorothy’s husband, James Loper.
