ELMER, N.J. — June 21, 2026 — Salem County Pride+ celebrated a landmark achievement on Saturday as nearly 1,000 attendees gathered at Appel Farm Arts and Music Center for the inaugural South Jersey PrideFest, the first event of its kind in the region’s history.

The free, family-friendly event brought together LGBTQ+ individuals, families, allies, neighbors, community organizations, elected officials, artists, and local businesses for a day of celebration, connection, education, and visibility.

A Vibrant Community Gathering

The festival grounds were alive with activity, drawing visitors from across the region to celebrate unity and diversity in rural South Jersey. Key highlights from the day included:

  • Diverse Vendor Presence: More than 100 vendors participated, including 30 community organizations and five local food vendors.
  • Live Entertainment: Local bands and drag performers kept the atmosphere vibrant and welcoming throughout the day.
  • Regional Draw: Attendees traveled from throughout South Jersey and beyond to participate in the historic day.
  • State Support: Among those in attendance was Senator John Burzichelli, whose presence underscored the importance of supporting LGBTQ+ communities throughout New Jersey.

“This event exceeded every expectation we had,” said Amber Rorris-Crow, Deputy Director of Salem County Pride+. “When we began planning South Jersey PrideFest, our goal was to create a space where LGBTQ+ people in rural South Jersey could feel seen, celebrated, and connected. To see nearly 1,000 people come together in support of that vision was truly incredible.”

Deeply Personal Impact for Local Families

For many attendees, South Jersey PrideFest represented something deeply personal: a chance to celebrate their identities openly and safely within their own backyard.

Families pushed strollers through vendor rows, friends gathered for performances and activities, and neighbors connected with local organizations providing resources and support. Throughout the day, attendees repeatedly shared stories of gratitude, belonging, and excitement about finally having a Pride celebration in Salem County.

“The overwhelming response from attendees has been one of joy and appreciation,” Rorris-Crow said. “People told us they felt welcomed, represented, and hopeful. Many shared that they had waited years to see an event like this happen in Salem County. Hearing those stories reminds us exactly why this work matters.”

Looking Ahead: A Foundation for the Future

The event also highlighted the growing network of organizations, businesses, and community leaders committed to fostering inclusion and belonging throughout the region. South Jersey PrideFest was made possible through the support of volunteers, sponsors, vendors, community partners, elected officials, and countless supporters who contributed their time, energy, and resources to bring the event to life.

As Salem County Pride+ reflects on the success of this historic inaugural celebration, the organization remains committed to expanding opportunities for connection, advocacy, education, and support for LGBTQ+ individuals and families throughout South Jersey.

“This was more than a festival,” Rorris-Crow added. “It was a statement that LGBTQ+ people belong here, that our families belong here, and that there is a community ready to support and celebrate one another. The turnout and enthusiasm we witnessed on Saturday show that South Jersey was ready for this moment.”

This report was compiled from community submissions by Salem County Pride+, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering inclusion, visibility, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ individuals and families throughout the greater South Jersey region.
