Robert Russell Edwards
November 7, 1954 - September 20, 2026
Robert Russell Edwards, 72, passed away after a brief illness at home in Wilmington, DE. He was born on base in Quantico Virginia, and lived most of his life in Pennsville, New Jersey. He was a truck driver by trade but will always be remembered as an avid outdoorsman and volunteer fireman.
He was most proud of his service as a lifetime member of the Pennsville Fire and Rescue. He achieved the rank of lieutenant, and was recognized as Fire Fighter of the Year in 1993. The firehouse was definitely his home away from home.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Robbie could be found in the woods hunting with friends and family especially his Uncle Dave or on the dry end of a fishing pole in a boat. He also built and piloted RC, or remote-controlled, airplanes with his brother, Doug. Robbie, or Indian as he was nicknamed, owned several motorcycles throughout his years. He truly loved the good times spent riding his Harley with best friend, Jerry.
Robbie was predeceased by his parents, Bobby Lee Edwards and Diane B. Peterson Edwards. He is survived by his sister Lee Ann Edwards (partner Deborah Ecret) and brother Douglas (Barbara) Edwards, his aunts Clara Jones and Alberta Gaskill and uncle David (Dorothy) Edwards. He also will be remembered by his cousins, and friends that treated him like family, especially Jerry Brown and Matthew Smigelski.
The Edwards family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to those firemen and responders who visited Robbie, and to the dedicated staff at Gilpin Hall for their compassion and care during his illness.
Burial will be private. The family kindly requests that anyone who wishes to do so, make a donation to the Pennsville Fire and Rescue Company No. 1 in Robbie’s memory.
