Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 11, 2026, with a visitation from 10:00am till 12pm and the memorial service at 12pm at Ashcraft Funeral Home, 740 S Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070. Reception to follow at the Serviceman’s Memorial Home 35 S DuPont Rd. Carneys Point, NJ 08069.
Robert P. Boon Sr., age 81, a longtime resident of Pennsville passed away peacefully on June 27th, 2026, at his home.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Preston and Mabel, and his sister Carol Ann. Also, his in-laws, Calvin and Esther and sister-in-law, Loretta. He is survived by his wife, Maryellen, his brother Edward (Tink), children, Robert Jr (Denise), Crystal (Jeffrey) and Jonathan, and his 7 grandchildren, Brianna, Brendan, Skylar, Cheyenne, Dallas, Nicholas and Corey. And his 5 great grandchildren.
Robert also known as Benny or Bob to most, had many achievements over his lifetime. He graduated Salem High school in 1963. He then heard the call of duty and joined the Navy. He then proceeded to join the Army National Guard and then 8 years in the Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He has many accomplishments including, 1994 National Marine of the year for the Marine Corps League, past Commandant of the Marine Corps League Salem County, member of the VFW Post 8840 in Penns Grove, past Commander of Post 297 American Legion, and current member of the Semper Fi Marine Corps League detachment. He was also the coordinator for Toys for Tots Salem County for 23 years.
He retired from the county of Salem where he served as the Veterans Service Officer for many years. He was past President of the Board of Directors for Healthcare Commons, Inc and continued to be a member for 25 years. He was also an ordained minister and was a member of the Chaplain of Four Chaplains. He had the joy of officiating multiple couples’ weddings including his daughter, and multiple baptisms including his grandchildren.
Robert and his wife were married for 50 years. He was actively involved with the Pennsville Little League. He was his sons and daughter’s coach over the years and also was an officer on the board for the Little League.
