A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11 AM at the Parish of St. Gabriel the Archangel, 369 Georgetown Road, Carneys Point, NJ 08069. A viewing was held at the church prior to the Mass from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. Burial followed at Lawnside Cemetery, Rt. 40, Woodstown, NJ 08098.
Leon Mattioli, 93, of Penns Grove, passed away on October 11, 2026. Born in Penns Grove, Leon was the son of Pantaleone and Elisa Panico Mattioli.
After graduating from Penns Grove High School, Leon proudly served in the United States Army where he was the US Army Signal School Honor Graduate. Following his military service, he attended Drexel University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He went on to enjoy a long career with Allied Chemical in Marcus Hook, where he served as an Environmental Manager until his retirement, and was awarded the highest award in the company, the Chairman of the Board Award.
Leon was an active member of his community and belonged to several organizations, including the Washington Club, the Mother of Grace Society, the Salem County Friends, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.
He is survived by his children, Michele Mattioli-Landew, Tom and his wife, Patrisia, and Mark and his wife, Patricia; his beloved sister, Gilda Gill; and his six grandchildren, Dominique, Nicholas, Olivia, Tommy, Valentina, and Cole, as well as his nephew James Gill and his nieces Teresa Cirillo and Gina Glass. In addition to his parents, Leon was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie Ann Mattioli, and his sister, Theresa Mattioli. Leon loved his family and friends, as well as the many friends of his children and enjoyed spending time with them. He lived the Christian maxim of loving your neighbor as yourself, and never failed to help anyone who asked.
