Services will be held Wednesday, July 8th at H. T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 South Main Street, Woodstown, NJ. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at the request of the family. James “Jim” Kerr Lloyd, 82, of Pittsgrove, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Merion Gardens Assisted Living Facility, in Carney’s Point, NJ.
Jim was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, on December 28, 1943, to James Frank Lloyd and Martha Louise (Chester) Lloyd. He grew up in Camden, New Jersey, and later in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
He was a 1962 graduate of Pennsauken High School and attended Rutgers University, before enlisting in the Navy on September 30, 1963. Jim served on the USS John Adams nuclear submarine, becoming a nuclear instructor on the sub. He was honorably discharged on September 25, 1970, with the rank of Petty Officer.
Jim began working for Public Service Electric and Gas Company at the Burlington plant. He was transferred to the Salem Nuclear Plant on Artificial Island to teach the first class of Reactor Operators. During his career, he taught General Employee Training, as well as Reactor Operator and Senior Reactor Operator training. He became a Principal Training Supervisor, overseeing the administration of training and interacting with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission regarding operator exams at the facility. He retired in 2000, with 30 years of service, and began a decade of consulting work creating written and simulator testing exams for other nuclear facilities.
On Valentine’s Day, 1988, he married Anavia (Ann) Renda Primavera, and they enjoyed 38 years of love and laughter, always together. Jim will always be remembered for his terrific sense of humor and his kindness and generosity to others.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed being with his golfing buddies, traveling, and taking long walks in Cape May. He recently achieved his 43rd year of sobriety and always looked forward to going to his AA meetings and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Howard; his stepson & step-daughter-in-law, Michael & Jessica; and his stepdaughter, Michelle Primavera. He is survived by his wife, his sons, James and Kevin (Diane), his granddaughter, Kristin, and his step-granddaughter, Kayleigh Primavera.
