David Coneeny, 91, of Woodstown, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026.
Born in Woodbury, New Jersey, David was the son of the late Francis Edward and Marion J. (Tallon) Coneeny. A 1952 graduate of Penns Grove High School, he distinguished himself as a gifted athlete, earning varsity letters in football, basketball, and track. He was named a Tri-County All-Star in both football and track and received All-South Jersey Group II honors in football. His passion for athletics continued long after high school, as he played and coached semi-professional football from 1954 to 1962 with the Blue Raiders and Swedesboro Devils. He also played basketball with the Black Hawk hoopsters and at Kamp Karney. David’s love of mentoring young athletes led him to found and become the first coach of the Penns Grove Hawks Midget Football team. In recognition of his outstanding athletic achievements and contributions to the community, he was inducted into the Penns Grove High School Hall of Fame in 2002.
Following high school, David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He served with the famed 82nd Airborne Division, the 187th Regimental Combat Team (Rakkasans), and the Military Police while stationed at Camp Chickamauga in Beppu, Japan.
From an early age, David understood the value of hard work, from his family’s business, Coneeny’s Store in Carneys Point, throughout his elementary and high school years. He later enjoyed a long and successful career as a Laboratory Technician at DuPont Chambers Works, retiring after 39 years of dedicated service.
David embraced life with enthusiasm and cherished time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing at Holly Hills and Sakima Country Club, where he was an honorary member. He enjoyed and had fond memories of numerous group golf trips throughout the East Coast. He loved fishing, woodworking, tending his vegetable garden, and spending time at the Jersey Shore, especially Whale Beach, Strathmere, Avalon, and Cape May. He also enjoyed skiing throughout Pennsylvania, New England, and Colorado, as well as taking cruises and memorable road trips throughout the South and Northeast.
David was a proud member of the Servicemen’s Memorial Home and Woodstown Moose Lodge #932, and VFW.
Above all, David was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (nรฉe Martelli); his daughters, Christine Coneeny and Cheryl Coneeny-Wright and her husband, Anthony; his grandchildren, Ashley Pelura-Bennett and her husband, Ryan, and Taylor Graham; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Dylan Rose Bennett and Tyler Ashley Bennett.
In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Francis J. Coneeny.
