Joseph Edward Seibert, age 72, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Ed was born in Elmer, NJ on March 15, 1954 to Joseph W. and Betty Jane (Doughty) Seibert. He graduated from Penns Grove High School in June 1973. Edward was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother Kenneth W. Seibert and sister JoAnn Watson. He is survived by sisters Patricia Koskey (Jack) and Karen Sherkness (Bill), and brothers Michael Seibert (Ginny) and James Doughty, Sr. He leaves behind nephews and nieces: Jimmy, Sherry, Dawn, Joey, Jeff, Denise, Jessica, Jamie, Zac, Kimmy, Amanda, Amber, and Bethany. Also many great nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever cherish the many memories they made together.
At times Ed took on the role of a father figure and even brother to many. He also proudly assumed the role of “Pop Pop” to Natalie, Alex and Gianna.
As a young child he participated in Little League, and Boy Scouts of America. In his teen years he was active in the Penns Grove High School Marching Band, and a member of the Order of DeMolay.
Ed’s passions in life were family, friends and travel. In his many travels he visited most of the 50 states including Hawaii, the EXPO 86 World Festival in Vancouver, Mexico, and at one point even drove across the country. His favorite family vacations were to Sea Isle City, NJ, and to Lake George, NY and surrounding areas. He also enjoyed many camping trips to the Jersey Pine Barrens with family. He frequently visited the historical village of Batsto where he located information regarding our Doughty ancestors. Though time eventually restricted his mobility and financial realities kept him closer to home, his adventurous spirit was never truly grounded. He lived his later years with the same free spirit he always had, just on a quieter scale.
Ed spent years passionately researching his Seibert family’s heritage, leaving no stone unturned in tracing his lineage. He traveled across the region to scour national and state records, visiting archives in Trenton, New York City, and Washington, D.C. His search also took him directly to local graveyards and historical repositories, where he meticulously examined old headstones and parish registries for clues. He shared his love of family history with cousin David Conover. He frequently visited the village of Batsto where he located much of his information regarding his Doughty side of the family.
His many hobbies included photography. Nieces, nephews and several friends accompanied Ed through the years to numerous locations to capture nature at its finest. They also enjoyed nightly ghost hunts and deer spotting. Many of his nature photos were displayed in a local diner. He was a regular nightly visitor at the diner where he spent many hours creating long lasting friendships.
When anyone thinks of someone selfless Ed’s name is sure to come to mind. Kind, compassionate, intelligent, faithful, curious, but most importantly he was real. He genuinely lived for others. He placed the needs, happiness, and well-being of those he loved far above his own. He had a unique ability to truly see people, meeting everyone with an open heart and an open mind. To know Ed was to experience a rare, unconditional kindness that made the world feel a little brighter and steadier for everyone blessed enough to be in his life.
