Eric Alan Shimp

March 16, 1975 - June 28, 2026

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Salem River Inn, 91 Country Club Road, Salem, NJ 08079. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00pm followed by a service at 1:00pm Donations in Eric’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.

Eric Alan Shimp, age 51, of Quinton, NJ, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the beloved son of Ann Cannon and the late Alan Shimp.

A 1993 graduate of Salem High School, Eric began his career at Anchor Glass in Salem before becoming a Mechanical Nuclear Technician – Machinist at PSEG Nuclear. He took great pride in his work and believed in doing things right the first time. His strong work ethic, straightforward nature, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues who quickly became lifelong friends.

Though dedicated and focused on the job, Eric knew how to enjoy life. He loved hosting gatherings, cooking and grilling for friends, and spending time at the Jersey Shore or boating on the Delaware River. Motor sports, working on cars and trucks, and time spent at the Salem Sportsman’s Club and the Avalon Fishing Club were among his favorite pastimes. He also cherished the companionship of his beloved pet, Chico.

Eric is survived by his mother, Ann Cannon, and her husband, Charles T. Cannon; his sisters, Lori Bacon (Bruce) and Jennifer Shimp; his stepbrother, Sean Cannon (Jae); nieces Danielle Bacon, Lilee Dickson, and Hailey Cannon; nephews Jack Bacon and Liam Cannon; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, and the way he showed up for the people he cared about.
