SALEM — Salem Police responded to 781 calls for service in August (a decrease from 912 in July), according to the department‘s monthly Nature of Incident Report, covering Aug. 1 through Aug. 31. The month’s log included an armed robbery, four aggravated assaults, six ShotSpotter gunfire-detection activations and a handful of burglaries and vehicle thefts, alongside the routine mix of traffic stops, alarm responses and quality-of-life calls that make up most police activity in any given month. Being logged as a call for service is not the same as a criminal charge, and not every call results in an arrest or citation.
