Susan (Bigger) Shute

June 4, 1944 - October 6, 2026

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing from 10AM-11AM on Friday, October 16th, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Pennsville Assembly of God Church, 328 N. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070.

Celebrating the life of Susan Shute (née Bigger), who went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 6th, at the age of 82.

She was a devoted aunt, sister in Christ to so many, and faithful prayer warrior, and she is deeply missed. Susan was born on June 30, 1944 (per family-submitted obituary text; funeral home’s listing header gives June 4, 1944 — dates conflict in source, noted for review), to Ralph and Dorothy Bigger. Susan lived a life deeply rooted in her unwavering faith. She never hesitated to stop and lift up a stranger or a friend in prayer, leaving a trail of comfort and grace wherever she stepped. Through her service for the Lord, she was a Sunday school teacher, and she attended Aldine United Methodist Church for several years and recently started to attend the Assembly of God Church in Pennsville. She truly had a heart for missions, serving as the missions chairperson for many years at Aldine UMC, volunteering at Ground Zero after 9/11, and leading an annual mission trip to a Navajo reservation in Arizona for nearly 20 years.

Sue also found immense joy in God’s creation and lived out her days on her beloved farm, which she and Jay once had as a cattle farm. Sue loved horse races, and she had a passion for animals, caring for many horses over the years. For over 30 years, Sue shared her passion for literature and learning as a dedicated English teacher at West Deptford High School, where she was once named Teacher of the Year.

She is now peacefully reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Jay; her parents, Ralph Sr. and Dorothy; and her dear brother, Ralph Bigger Jr., who predeceased her. She is survived by her nephews, Reece Bigger and Jeff Shute; nieces, Tina Greth (Chris) and Lynda Shute; her great-nephews and great-niece, Nathan, Cole, Reid, Beckum, and Katie; and many close friends who loved her dearly.
