Susan Ruth Ingerson-Mahar

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, June 12, 2026 at the Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit – St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 51 Broad Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098. Prior to mass, there will be a visitation, also at the church, from 10 AM to 11 AM. Interment will follow mass at Lawnside Cemetery in Pilesgrove, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Sue to the Alzheimer’s Association to help accelerate the search for a cure by going to www.alz.org, or to UNRWA for humanitarian relief to the children of Palestine by going to www.unrwa.org.

Susan Ruth Ingerson-Mahar, of Alloway, NJ, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Born on May 31, 1948, she was the beloved daughter of Ruth and Clayton Ingerson.

Susan (“Sue”) was the youngest of five children. An active youth, at the age of ten she moved with her family to the Middle East because of her father’s work with USAID. First to Isfahan, Iran, and then spent the next eight years living throughout the Middle East and South Asia. During her travels, she met the Shah of Iran and King Hussein of Jordan, visited Jerusalem and Petra, and swam in the Gulf of Aqaba. Her family later lived in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Sue was homeschooled by her mother and later attended high school at the American School of Beirut in Lebanon. She came back to the US for her junior year at Jackson High School in Michigan, before returning to Lebanon and graduating from American School of Beirut.

Sue attended Michigan State University graduating in 1970, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She became the first female salesperson for the Nabisco Company in Michigan, where she worked for 12 years. During this time Sue was an active member of the Jug and Mug Ski Club. On October 13, 1979, she married Joseph Mahar at the Alumni Chapel on the campus of Michigan State University.

Throughout her life, Sue devoted herself to her family and community. She served as a librarian for the Pennsville Public Library in New Jersey, a Girl Scout leader in Alloway Township, a room mother at Alloway Township School, a dedicated soccer mom, and then returned to a career in sales with Progressive Business Publications. She was also an active member of Lady Fitness in Woodstown, where she developed many friendships. Later, she served as Vice President of the Seniors Club at the Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit Parish and retired in 2018.

Sue will be fondly remembered for her warmth, generosity, and exceptional baking. Her pastries, pies, and meatloaf brought joy to family and friends and will be remembered for years to come.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Ingerson-Mahar; her children, Michael Mahar (Ernestine), Frederick Mahar (Alicia), Candis Ingerson-Mahar (Beck), and Paula Ingerson-Mahar; her grandchildren, David (Anna), Logan, Alivia, Jack, Madeline, and Zephyr; and her siblings, Michael Ingerson (Kaye) and Claire Halliwill (Fred). She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Ruth Ingerson; her brother, Charles Ingerson; and her sister, Mary Ingerson.

Sue’s dedication to family and caring heart touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
