Stephen Eli Shelton

A celebration of life for Steve will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Camp Crockett County Park, 148 Avis Mill Road, Pilesgrove, NJ 08098, between the hours of 12 PM to 4 PM.

In loving memory of Stephen Eli Shelton

Stephen Eli Shelton, a lifelong resident of Pittsgrove, New Jersey, was born on September 26, 1943, and was called home on September 14, 2026. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, generosity, and wisdom. Steve had a remarkable ability to make people feel loved, welcomed, and cared for.

In Steve’s earlier years, he proudly operated the linotype machine for the Bridgeton evening newspaper. In 1972, he met the love of his life, Sherry, together they built their dream home, raised their family, and found joy and love in the simple pleasures of life.

Steve had an exceptional work ethic and took immense pride in providing a nurturing and loving home for his family. He could be found six days a week sharing stories, laughter, advice and music knowledge with his customers and friends at his shop, the Factory Outlet Sewing Center, which was family-owned and operated since 1973.

On Tuesday nights, Steve delighted in hosting and sharing his passion for music on his radio show, the Bluegrass Hour and Country Classics. Steve and his family had many cherished traditions. Some of his happiest moments were spent at the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival, which he attended annually for over 40 years. Steve also enjoyed leisurely rides on his Honda Goldwing, Sunday morning walks at the flea market, and picking his banjo.

Steve had an appreciation for nature and loved being outdoors, he could often be found tending to his garden and embarking on late-night walks to the corner looking for the Big Dipper. The thing that meant the world to him was being able to spend quality time with his family and friends.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife Sherry, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage with; his children Andrew, Jeffery (Kelly), June and Sharon; his grandchildren Trisha, Jimmy, Jake and Kaylee; his sister Brenda along with many dear friends who lives were touched by his kindness and friendship.

Before his departure, Steve was preceded in death by his son Stevie; his sisters Evelyn, Marie, Helen, Dot, Jody, Vonita, and Ruth; along with his brothers Buddy and Danny.

Although Steve is no longer physically beside us, his love and legacy will endure through countless memories, stories, and valuable lessons he imparted. He was a devoted husband, an exceptional father, and the epitome of a loving Pop-pop. He will forever remain a source of strength and our Superman.
