August 28, 1944 – September 3, 2026
Salem, New Jersey

Robert (“Bob”) Edward Harwood Sr., a lifelong resident of Salem, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving daughters on September 3, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born in Salem, Bob was the son of the late Robert D. Harwood and Esther Butler Harwood. A graduate of Salem High School’s Class of 1962, Bob remained deeply rooted in the community he called home throughout his entire life. Defined by a quiet steadfastness and a genuine desire to help others, he gave generously of his time, strength, and energy to his neighbors and town, most notably through his dedicated service as a volunteer firefighter with Washington Fire Company, No. 3. For many years, Bob served as the secretary for Washington. His years on the line reflected his enduring commitment to public service, courage, and camaraderie. If you knew Bob, you knew he was an avid Philly sports fan. Bob faithfully rooted for the Eagles, the Phillies, the Flyers, and the Sixers. Bob’s heart definitely belonged to the Phillies, but the other teams were not far behind. Beyond his community involvement, Bob was a devoted family man.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jeanne B. Harwood. He took immense pride in his children, daughters Michelle M. Dero (Mark) and Deeann M. Rivera (William), and his son, Robert E. Harwood Jr. and his grandsons, Noah Thomas Rivera and Cayden Robert Dero. Bob cherished every moment spent gathered with family, friends, and lifelong neighbors across South Jersey. Those who knew him will warmly remember his dependable nature, his ready smile, and the steady, humble manner in which he lived each day. Bob never meant a stranger!

Bob is also survived by his brothers, Thomas Harwood (Linda) and A. Paul Harwood (Lynn) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his sister Adelia Jean Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Robert Edward Harwood Sr. to your local volunteer fire company or the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association, 1711 Route 34 South, Wall Township, New Jersey 07727-3934.
