Memorial Visitation: Monday, October 5, 2026, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM, with brief remarks from family at 5:30 PM, at Adams Funeral Home – South Jersey Cremation Services, 111 South Main Street, Elmer, NJ 08318. Richard “Rick” Vincent Montana, age 59, born in Vineland and resident of Pittsgrove, NJ, passed away on Monday, September 28th of 2026, after a three-year aggressively fought battle with liposarcoma.

Rick is survived by his life partner, Sonya Hastings; children, Danielle (Mike), Anthony, Angelina, Julia and Abigail; his twin grandchildren, Noah and Elliot; his mother, Joan Hathaway; stepfather, Edgar Hathaway; sister-in-law, Linda Harper; dogs Cooper and Malibu and about 50 other pets.

Rick was predeceased by his grandfather, Burroughs Timberman; grandmothers, Helen Timberman, and Frances Montana Wiltz; and mother-in-law Martha Koziel.

Capturing his personality in writing is nearly impossible, but Rick was a legend larger than life. If you knew Rick, you knew his advice and his helping hand. He was personal and thoughtful, with decades of experience and unmatched wisdom that meant he had the answer to everything. Whether navigating health challenges, a relationship issue, a speeding ticket, what bet to make on the Eagles or how to fix something at home – he knew exactly what to say or do in a way that left every person he encountered both laughing and inspired.

Rick’s entire life centered around his family – which included his children, grandchildren, parents, and any suffering animal that ever crossed his path and ended up in his bathtub being nurtured back to health. He made the world a better place because his life’s mission was to work hard, play harder and absolutely maximize the quality time with the people he loves the most.

Rick was a kid at heart and found joy anywhere there was a motor, open water, or speed. Whether he was out on his boat fishing, going dirt bike racing with his kids, or buying something on Facebook marketplace 400 miles away, he lived for the kind of fun that came with a great story afterward.

Rick was a lifelong member and current serving Vice President of Elmer, NJ’s Four Sixes Deer Club, a position he took extreme pride in and a place where his loss will be insurmountably felt. After receiving a degree in Business Management, he made a successful career in construction, owning and operating his own business for most of his life.

He will be missed beyond explanation – but we feel deep peace in knowing that he is finally no longer in pain.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Rick to the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter (AHS South), https://ahs.givecloud.co/give.
