A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, March 30th in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish – Corpus Christi Church, 369 Georgetown Rd., Carneys Point, where friends are invited to gather 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow Mass in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Blackwood. Arrangements are by the H.T. Layton Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Woodstown. Jeanette “Janet” Nichols, age 84 of Carneys Point, died Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in her home.
Janet was born on March 8, 1942 in the Old Salem Hospital on Market Street in Salem to the late Anthony and Veronica Nichols of Alloway. She was a 1960 graduate of Woodstown High School, and she attended Goldey Beacom College.
Janet was an Elvis Presley fanatic, loving everything and anything that was “Elvis”. She loved gardening her little piece of heaven in front of her apartment in Carneys Point, where she had lived for over 20 years. From February through October, her beloved Phillies were at the top of all her conversations. Janet was a strong advocate for all military members serving our country.
Janet’s church family was one of the most important parts of her life. She found not only faith within the walls of church, but also a deep friendship, comfort, and a true sense of belonging. Through every season, her church community stood by her side sharing joys, lifting her in prayer during difficult times, and walking with her in love and fellowship.
Janet’s journey was not always easy, but she showed that strength is not measured by circumstances, but by heart and determination with which one meets them.
Janet is survived by her brother, William D. Nichols of Whidbey Island, WA; her nieces and nephews, Andrew, Chris, Vicki, Toni, Kelli, Darci, and Brett; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Laura (Banick) Boger; and her brother, Phillip “Penny” Nichols.
