A service to honor and celebrate Butch’s life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Laughrey Funeral Home, One North Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070. Friends and family may pay their respects beginning at 10 AM, followed by a service at 11 AM. Interment immediately following the service at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, 719 Salem-Woodstown Rd. (Route 45), Pilesgrove, NJ 08098.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Glendon “Butch” Durham, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on September 13, 2026. Born on May 18, 1945, in Salem, NJ, Butch lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community. He passed away unexpectedly at home, leaving a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Butch was the son of the late Norman “Jake” and Anna Durham of Pennsville, NJ. He was predeceased by his loving parents, his brother Robert Reed, his sisters Barbara Zeli and Doris Martell, and son-in-law Darren Tilton. Butch is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gail, with whom he shared a full life and countless memories. Together, they raised two daughters: Theresa Tilton of Pennsville and Glenda Rehrman (Michael) of Middletown, DE. He was the proud grandfather to Caitlin Tilton (Dannielle), Matt Tilton, and Alicea Nelson, adoring Pop-Pop to Greyden and Everett Tilton, an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Pennsville Memorial High School, Butch went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he worked alongside his father and brothers as a mechanic and later became a skilled diesel mechanic, eventually owning and operating Durham’s Truck Service. He was respected and admired by his colleagues and patrons.
Butch was a man of faith, actively involved with the Haines Neck and Deepwater Methodist Churches. His Sundays were filled with worship and fellowship, always followed by a breakfast at the Deepwater Diner with his church group. A proud member of the Pennsville VFW, he cherished Friday nights spent with friends and fellow veterans.
Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Butch had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His hearty laugh and generous spirit brightened the lives of many, and our memories of him will remain with those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Butch’s memory to the Pennsville VFW or Haines Neck Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Pennsville Fire and Ambulance for their compassion during this difficult time.
May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
