October 23, 2026

In accordance with his wishes, services will be held at the discretion of his family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in George’s honor to the Salem County Humane Society, P.O. Box 214, Carneys Point, NJ 08069, or to an animal shelter of the donor’s choosing.

George W. Shute, Jr., 69, of Carneys Point, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Cooper University Hospital, following a courageous 14-month battle with cancer. In his final moments, George was surrounded by the comfort of familiar music, listening to John Denver with his beloved wife, Kimberly, by his side.

George dedicated over 40 years of his professional life to the nuclear industry, working as a civil and mechanical engineer before retiring in 2023. His career reflected his dedication, knowledge, and strong work ethic.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, George was deeply devoted to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization he proudly served for more than 30 years. Throughout his years of service, he held numerous leadership positions at the local, district, and council levels, leaving a lasting impact on the Scouting community. His commitment and contributions were recognized through several prestigious honors, including the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award, and the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. He was also a proud member of the Antelope Patrol, with whom he earned his Wood Badge in 2023.

One of George’s greatest sources of pride throughout his years in Scouting was witnessing his sons’ accomplishments. Both Joshua and Jeffrey attained the rank of Eagle Scout, while Adam earned the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. George took immense pride in their achievements and never missed an opportunity to share them with others, often speaking of his sons’ accomplishments with the same enthusiasm and admiration he had for Scouting itself.

George also had a love for traveling, especially with his wife by his side. Among his favorite destinations were Wyoming and Alaska, places that held a special place in his heart.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Kimberly Shute; his four children Joshua (Alyssa) Brant, Adam (Mary) Brant, Jeffrey (Kelly) Shute, and Lori (James) Gillespie; and his eight cherished grandchildren Finnegan and Josephine (Joshua), Levi, Annabelle, and Holden (Adam), Aaron (Jeffrey), and Reagan and Jimmy (Lori). He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Howell and Peggy Watson, and brother Charles Shute.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Shute, Sr. and Frances (Batten) Shute, as well as his three sisters Louise Meyers, Blanche LaSpina, and Kaye Richard.

George leaves behind a legacy of dedication, devotion, and service, but perhaps his greatest source of pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he could happily talk about for hours.
