Denise Avette (Cooper) Thomas
October 8, 1950 - August 13, 2026
Denise Avette Cooper Thomas was born on October 8, 1950, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Emmuel Cooper and Stella Reeves Marshall. She was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 13, 2026, with her sweet angel, Ambassador Sandy Martin, sitting nearby, within a wing’s-eye view.
Denise, affectionately known as “Dr. Mom” to her girls and “Niecy” to her closest friends, graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Denise’s first calling was nursing. She loved and cared for countless patients in hospital rooms and nursing homes throughout the surrounding Tri-State area. Caring for others was not simply her profession. It was her ministry! Later in life, Denise received her doctorate in theological studies from Jameson School of Ministry. She was a faithful, tithe-paying member of Family Worship Center- W.O.R.D Church, where she dutifully served in various ministry departments under the leadership of Apostle Freddy and Bishop Pamela Washington. Her faith was not something she simply shared; she lived it.
Dr. Denise was preceded in death by her parents, the late Dr. Reverend Truman Marshall and Dr. Stella Marshall, and beloved partner in parenting, Edward A. Thomas. She leaves to cherish her memory her four beautiful daughters: Monique Redmond (Kwame and Malik Redmond), LeNora Smith (LeNise Wedington-Smith), Tramaine and Antonio Christian (Christian and Ava Walker), and T’Lea Thomas (Kyler Thomas). In addition, she leaves behind the sweetest and greatest niece in the world, Jolene Snyder; her palmist goddaughter, Cheryl Georges; and her faithful fur babies, Missy Denise, Sandy Candy, and Dior Marie.
