Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on August 03, 2026, 1100 hours, at Finns Point National Cemetery in Pennsville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate may do so to the Salem County Humane Society or to Carneys Point Fire and Rescue in the name of Charles R. Weigle, Sr.
Charles Randolph Weigle, Sr., 83, of Carneys Point, NJ passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026. He was born on April 16, 1943, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, son of the late Viola and Lyle Gibbs Weigle. Lyle was killed in action in World War 2 when Charles was just 13 months old. Viola later married Jennings T. Weigle and together they raised Charles.
Chuck, as he was known by most outside of WV, is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Paige Weigle; two children Charles R. Weigle, Jr. and Jeffrey S. Weigle (MaryAnn), of Carneys Point; two grandchildren, Morgan B. Weigle of Pennsville, NJ and Charles R. Weigle, III of Carneys Point and a daughter in law, Dawn Norton Weigle. Also survived by his sisters, Scarlet Ward (Wayne) and Dreama Shanholtz (Darwin) and a brother Randy Weigle, all of Hedgesville, WV; a stepsister Brenda White of Kearnysville, WV, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His special Uncle Jearld Spade, who was more like a brother because of their close age also survives Chuck.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepsister Joan Johnson. One of the most devastating losses was the death of his beloved grandson Quintin B. Weigle. His sidekick Cocker Spaniel, Scroogie also preceded him.
Chuck, at one time was an avid fisherman, being one of the OGs of Striper fishermen fishing the banks of the Delaware River in the 60’s and 70’s. He fished the tides after a shift at DuPont, being trapped on a small piece of beach with his 15-foot rod, gold hooks and a canvas bag he acquired from DuPont. Hardly ever coming home empty handed, he brought home many huge fish. His sons are grateful for his skill being passed to them.
He could fix or do anything. Whether it be painting the neighborhood houses or building an award winning 1956 Chevy from the ground up. Perfection was his goal. He was a history buff and authoring published articles about WW2.
Chuck was a proud veteran who served our country. After graduating Berkeley Springs High School, West Virginia in 1961, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in several places stateside and in Taiwan for 18 months. He left the service in 1965. He then began his career with DuPont, working in several locations and areas before retiring in 1998. He also volunteered for the PGCPPED Little League and Boy Scouts of America for many years.
