PITTSGROVE — Senior Karlie Bakley was in the right place at the right time to score a Senior Day golden goal that delivered Schalick a division title

Bakley was in perfect position to run onto a rebound and knock it into the net in overtime to give the Cougars a 1-0 win over archival Woodstown to clinch their ninth straight TCC Diamond Division title and complete another unbeaten run through the division.

“It was one of those games where emotions were a mixed bag,” Schalick coach Will Kemp said. “You know it’s Senior Night, but at the same time you know it’s your rival.

“I just knew it was going to be one of those nights where we really had to dig deep to win this, especially with Woodstown getting momentum, but overall, at the end of the day, happy to see them celebrate a victory against their rival on Senior Night. It was special. It was definitely special.”

Cecilee Bell crossed a ball into the box. It bounced once and the keeper called for it. When she did, the defenders backed off. The ball continued to bounce and Bakley was able to run onto it and nudge it into the goal. It was her eighth of the season and 17th of her career.

Within the nine consecutive titles, the Cougars are 80-2-2 in the division with seven unbeaten seasons, including the last four in a row.

The Cougars had three great chances to score in the second half. The first came in the opening minute of the half. The other two came when Kyleigh Cutler and Emily Miller were both turned away on penalty shots. Cutler’s PK came off a hand ball in the box, Miller’s came after Cutler was taken down from behind in the box.

With Saturday being the cutoff for power points, the Cougars are looking to improve their position in the standings. They are currently No. 2, 0.156 behind leader Wildwood. They play Group 4 Millville today with a chance to pick up some major power points.

PENNSVILLE 6, SALEM TECH 0: Senior Cameron Robbins scored her first two goals of the season, Abby Marandola had a goal and three assists, and Zoey Taylor recorded her fourth shutout of the season. Sloan Marquette, Gianna Battista and Isabella Marandola scored Pennsville’s other goals.

SCHALICK 6, WOODSTOWN 1: Tim Koering and Jake Sepers each scored twice and the Cougars completed their Tri-County Diamond Division schedule undefeated for the second time in three years. They are 37-2-1 in winning the division the last four years.

The Cougars also are looking to hold onto the No. 1 seed in the South Jersey Group 1 playoffs. They currently hold nearly a four-point lead on current No. 2 Palmyra.

Ryan Loper and Nolan O’Toole scored Schalick’s other goals.

PENNSVILLE 4, SALEM TECH 0: Sam Hassler scored the first of his two first-half goals three minutes into the match and Justin Michaca and Lucas Cooksey both scored in the second as the Eagles appeared to have secured a spot in the SJ Group 1 playoffs.

The Eagles (6-8) entered the match rholding the 16th spot in the SJ1 power points standings and moved all the way to 14th after the win. The cutoff day is Saturday.

“We needed our best players to set up today, and they did,” Pennsville coach Derek Foglein said.

GLASSBORO 4, PENNS GROVE 1: After scoring a big win earlier in the week over Woodstown, the Red Devils fell flat against the Bulldogs, but whether it cost them a first-round home game in the playoffs remains to be seen. They still sit seventh in the power points standings.

Juan Ortiz scored his 22nd goal of the season in the first half, but that was all the Red Devils could muster.
