Show us the county as you see it, and your picture could be featured in our end-of-season fall photo gallery.
Salem County is one of the most rural places in New Jersey, and fall is when it shows off. Farm fields turn gold and tan. The tree lines along the creeks go red and orange. Mist settles over the marsh in the early morning, and late-afternoon light stretches across open farmland like it belongs in a painting.
If you live here, you already know it. You see it on the drive to work, at the farm stand, on the road home from a Friday night game. The News of Salem County wants to see it through your eyes.
We are putting together a Fall in Love with Salem County photo gallery. The best reader photos will be featured at the end of the season, with your name on the credit.
Places to start
- The Elephant Swamp Trail, the old railroad bed that ends in Elmer, with its streams, wetlands and farm fields
- Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Pennsville, where the salt marsh meets the Delaware
- Mannington Meadows in Mannington Township, a complex of wetlands and tidal waters spanning thousands of acres
- Lower Alloways Creek, Quinton and Elsinboro, where farm fields run out to the creeks and the marsh
- Pilesgrove, Woodstown and the back roads, farms and small towns in between including the Wildlife Preserve on Featherbed Lane
What we are looking for
- Wide open fields, barns and farm stands
- Creeks, ponds, marshes, the Delaware River and the bay
- Historic homes and small-town streets in fall color
- Wildlife, sunrises, sunsets and fog
- The small moments that make a place feel like yours
How to send yours
- Email your photos to contact@thenewsofsalemcounty.com. Please send the original high-resolution file, not a screenshot or a picture saved from social media. Facebook and messaging apps shrink photos, and a shrunken photo will not hold up in a gallery.
- If your files are too large to attach, send a link to a shared folder.
- Tell us the year the photo was taken, and confirm you took it yourself.
- Tell us your name as you want it credited, where the photo was taken, and a short caption.
- Photos are welcome through Sunday, November 15.
A few ground rules. Only send photos you took yourself. Please stay on public land or places where you have permission to be. Some refuges and wildlife management areas allow hunting in the fall, so check posted rules, stay on marked trails and wear bright colors. If a child is recognizable in your photo, we need a parent’s okay. By sending a photo, you give The News of Salem County permission to publish it in the gallery, on our website and on our social pages with your credit. We cannot publish every photo we receive.
Salem County does not get enough credit for how beautiful it is. Help us fix that.
